Bronwynn Leighty made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Grace Singleton and Laurel Day did most of the damage at the plate: Singleton went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Day went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Evelyn Bowman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Hayes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pickerington Central only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, Berne Union can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They blew past Harvest Prep 24-3. Considering the Rockets have won nine matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Hayes, Berne Union also got a great game from a two-way player: Reese Besco. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Besco was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Rylee North was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Josilyn Hedges, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Hayes pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Berne Union, their record is now 12-9.
Berne Union's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Hayes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Berne Union, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Hayes keep running through batters, or will the Rockets buck the trend?
