On Friday, the Regis Jesuit Raiders faced the Cherokee Trail Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Regis Jesuit took a 61-43 bruising from Cherokee Trail. It was the first time this season that Regis Jesuit let down their fans at home.
Regis Jesuit's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Coryn Watts, who scored 13 points. The game was Watts' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jane Rumpf, who scored three points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Regis Jesuit were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Regis Jesuit's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4. As for Cherokee Trail, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Regis Jesuit will take on Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cherokee Trail, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Legend at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Legend's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
