They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lee's Summit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 177 rushing yards in ten consecutive matchups.
Lee's Summit's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Mason Kinnan and Kona Notestine, who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Nixa won against Helias two weeks ago with 45 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Eagles blew past Pattonville, posting a 45-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 28 points or more this season.
Lee's Summit better keep an eye on Jayden McCaster. He was instrumental in Nixa's win, rushing for 176 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. McCaster's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 135 rushing yards. Nixa also got a significant boost from Adam McKnight, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.
Nixa didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Reed Wilson and Randy Flint. Jax Adams was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Lee's Summit's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Nixa, their win bumped their record up to 13-0.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lee's Summit has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 260.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Nixa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 283.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
