The Canutillo Eagles came tearing into Friday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Clint with points to spare, taking the game 50-31. That's another feather in the cap for Canutillo, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canutillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rebekah Perez, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Perez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Folkner, who scored 15 points along with 3 steals.
Despite the loss, Clint still got an impressive performance from Anabella Portillo, who scored 13 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Portillo hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Kristine Garcia, who scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Clint were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canutillo only pulled down eight.
Canutillo's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Clint, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Canutillo won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mountain View at 3:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Clint is on the road again on Saturday and play against Fort Hancock at 10:30 a.m. on December 2nd. Fort Hancock's defense has only allowed 23.4 points per game this season, so Clint's offense will have their work cut out for Clint.
