The Patrick County Cougars will square off against the Amherst County Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Patrick County has three straight wins, Amherst County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Patrick County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Radford on Tuesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 12-1 victory.

Calvin Lancaster made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Patrick County is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Lancaster was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Mark Register looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jaiden Wilson was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. He has become a key player for Patrick County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Noah Cain was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Patrick County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Amherst County came up short against Jefferson Forest on Tuesday, falling 17-3.
Amherst County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Patrick County, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
