Oneonta and Locust Fork are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2023, but likely not for long. The Redskins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Oneonta proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Etowah 3-2. While the Redskins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ali Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Briley Aguirre, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Millie Simmons was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Locust Fork came out on top against Pennington on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Hornets walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Tigers. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Braylee Calloway was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Calloway was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Shanna Johnson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
The victory got Locust Fork back to even at 1-1. As for Oneonta, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-5.
Oneonta beat Locust Fork 6-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
