Two dominant players in Henry Robinson Jr. and Jameer Clark are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Matanzas Pirates's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Matanzas focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Matanzas ultimately got the result they hoped for. They had just enough and edged Davenport out 62-59. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Matanzas has posted yet this season.
Matanzas found their leader in underclassman Robinson Jr., who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Robinson Jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tariq Shakir, who scored 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Flagler Palm Coast earned a 44-33 victory over DME Academy Gold on Monday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Flagler Palm Coast.
Among those leading the charge was Caumarion Lang, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clark, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Matanzas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. Flagler Palm Coast's record is now 8-9.
Matanzas took their win against Flagler Palm Coast in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 76-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Matanzas since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
