The Simeon Wolverines were the 72-64 winner over the Kenwood Broncos when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Simeon took a 61-42 bruising from Kenwood on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Simeon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Kenwood is ranked 25th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kenwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Edwon Duling, who scored 15 points. Duling continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Smith, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Simeon's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Kenwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Simeon will be playing in front of their home fans against Hyde Park at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Hyde Park's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for Kenwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Curie at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Curie is on a three-game streak of home wins, Kenwood a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
