Western managed to keep up with Eastern until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Western ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-30 walloping at the hands of Eastern. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Western has suffered since December 16, 2023.
Despite their loss, Western saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kerrigan Marhoover, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Marhoover's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Lauren Ware, who scored nine points.
In what's become a running theme this season, South Gallia gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They breezed by Eastern at home to the tune of 60-17. Given South Gallia's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Eastern is ranked 686th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Western dropped their record down to 1-15 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.9 points per game. As for South Gallia, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Western was taken down by South Gallia 58-6 in their previous meeting on January 11th. Will Western have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
