The Trinity Catholic Celtics will take on the Baker County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Trinity Catholic 3.7, Baker County 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Baker County will be up against a hot Trinity Catholic squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Trinity Catholic blew past Bishop Moore 8-2 on Friday. Considering the Celtics have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Caylee Barbe made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Julianna Ortega was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Hailey Wilson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Baker County came up short against Montverde Academy on Monday and fell 5-2. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.
Baker County also got a good showing from Grace Masterson, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Baker County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keyla Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Nelson hit this season.
Trinity Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Baker County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Baker County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
