Washington is 0-10 against Atchison since April of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Wildcats will square off against the Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Washington got the win against Wyandotte by a conclusive 11-4. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Chris Reno and Liam Peck made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Reno struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Peck tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reno has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Reno went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Peck got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. What's more, Reno posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Nathan Garcia was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Washington is 3-1 when Garcia posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Robles, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Atchison waltzed into their game last Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 16-0 shutout. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Yogi Purdy and Brody Barnes were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Purdy struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Barnes tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Purdy got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Barnes went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Grady Clark was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Noah Weaver, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Washington's record is now 5-10. As for Atchison, their record now sits at 4-1.
Washington suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Atchison in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
