The Independence Patriots entered their tilt with the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Independence walked away with a 20-7 victory over La Joya Community on Friday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Independence to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chance Ogle, who rushed for 138 yards. Ogle is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding La Joya Community to a paltry 90 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Independence's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Jerry Washington and Michael Palmer who racked up six sacks between them.
Independence's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.2 points per game. As for La Joya Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Independence is on the road again on Friday and play against Gila Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Gila Ridge is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for La Joya Community, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Seton Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Seton Catholic is ranked 158th, while La Joya Community is ranked 157th).
