Darlington is 8-1 against Wilson since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Falcons will square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Darlington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Darlington fell victim to West Florence and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Knights. The Falcons have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Wilson entered their tilt with Lower Richland on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Diamond Hornets a 15-0 shutout. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.
Zoey Miller made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one triple the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Wilson got a massive performance out of Sakura Jordan, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1. Jordan is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Martina Taylor, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1.
Wilson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Wilson now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Darlington, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Darlington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Wilson struggles in that department as they've averaged .542. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Darlington's way against Wilson when the teams last played back in March, as Darlington made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
