The Byers Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They were beaten by Stratton 55-27. While losing is never fun, Byers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Eagles are ranked 26th).
Byers' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Linnebur, who scored eight points along with two steals. Linnebur has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cossette Kerns, who scored three points.
It was another big night for Clare Miltenberger, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds for Stratton. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miltenberger has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Isenbart, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Byers has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Stratton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Byers will take on the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stratton, they will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Flagler is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
