Muhlenberg hit J.P. McCaskey with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tornados took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Muhls. That's two games in a row now that the Tornados have lost by exactly five runs.
J.P. McCaskey saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johansel Florentino, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Cedar Crest hadn't done well against Ephrata recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Falcons blew past the Mountaineers 11-4. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Chase Norris made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Norris was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, Lucas Schreier was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Landon Yeingst was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Cedar Crest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Cedar Crest and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for J.P. McCaskey, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
