Bryson Landon made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because ALA - Gilbert North is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Landon was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Tate Clarkson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of ALA - Gilbert North's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Diesel Lund was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
ALA - Gilbert North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Douglas suffered their closest defeat since April 12, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Sahuarita by a score of 4-2.
Isidro Hoyos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Douglas saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Hoyos, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
ALA - Gilbert North's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Douglas, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7-1.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. ALA - Gilbert North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
