Football Game Preview: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights vs. Moapa Valley Pirates

The Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights will take on the Moapa Valley Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Sierra Vista, who was ranked 12th at the time (Mater Academy East Las Vegas was ranked 17th). Mater Academy East Las Vegas was the clear victor by a 34-14 margin over Sierra Vista on Monday. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly 20 points.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas found their leader in sophomore Cheyanne Thornhill, who rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of her passes. That's the most passing touchdowns Thornhill has posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moapa Valley). They claimed a resounding 38-0 victory over Democracy Prep Agassi Campus. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Moapa Valley, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
