If the Fairbanks Panthers were riding high off their 51-8 takedown of the Northeastern Jets last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fairbanks fell 45-36 to Fredericktown on Tuesday. Fairbanks found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 16 to 6 on offense.
Reese Poling and Mara Vicari certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Poling scored six points along with two steals, while Vicari scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Boehm, who scored three points along with two steals.
Leading Fredericktown to victory were Mya Bryant and Cally Carpenter. Bryant scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Carpenter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Kennedy Algire was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Fairbanks' loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Fredericktown, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairbanks will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pleasant at 7:00 p.m. on February 20th. As for Fredericktown, they will head out on the road to square off against Centerburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centerburg will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Fredericktown surely won't give up without a fight.
