Even though the Palmetto Ridge Bears have not done well against the Community School of Naples Seahawks recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Palmetto Ridge managed a 62-57 win over Community School of Naples. Given Palmetto Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Community School of Naples is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmetto Ridge got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sean Gomez out in front who scored 22 points along with eight assists. Gomez continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Calven Charles, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Palmetto Ridge and bumps their season record up to 13-2. As for Community School of Naples, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Palmetto Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Barron Collier at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Barron Collier knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Palmetto Ridge likes a good challenge. As for Community School of Naples, they will take on Aubrey Rogers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
