Niwot extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They came up short against the Erie Tigers, falling 8-1. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Tigers when the teams met back in May of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Niwot saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaige Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
As for Erie, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
On Erie's side, Maddox Burnett made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Burnett was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other pitching news, Kaden Bertsch looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Ronin Ward was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kodie Shafter, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Coming up, Niwot will square off against Broomfield at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Erie, they are taking a road trip to face off against Legacy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
