The Metea Valley Mustangs will challenge the West Aurora Blackhawks at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Metea Valley 3, West Aurora 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Metea Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Larkin by a score of 7-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Metea Valley got a great performance from Tyler Kalnicky as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Reilly, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Gluting, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but West Aurora ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Romeoville 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Blackhawks' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Zach Toma was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Metea Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for West Aurora, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Metea Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Aurora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Metea Valley took their win against West Aurora in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Blackhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
