Canyon View is a perfect 5-0 against Desert Edge since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Canyon View will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While Canyon View's victory against Willow Canyon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Jaguars skirted past the Wildcats 6-5.
Canyon View got a great performance from Cason Hagerman as he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Hagerman has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eli McBryde and Rolando Valles did most of the damage at the plate: McBryde scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Valles went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Valles has posted over his last ten matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Berlan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Desert Edge's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 12-1 to Canyon View.
Desert Edge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zeus Durazo, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Canyon View's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Desert Edge, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-4.
Desert Edge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Canyon View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. It's a different story for Desert Edge, though, as they've only averaged .331. Will they be able to contain Canyon View's hitters?
Everything went Canyon View's way against Desert Edge in their previous matchup on Tuesday, as Canyon View made off with a 12-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
