Centaurus hasn't had much luck against Erie recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Centaurus will face off against Erie at 11:00 a.m.
Centaurus saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They fell just short of Shadow Ridge by a score of 2-1.
Centaurus saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Larson, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
While Erie didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Denver North on Thursday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.
Austin Sieckmann spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Ronin Ward was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Austin Muir was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Erie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
The win made it two in a row for Erie and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Centaurus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Centaurus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Centaurus came up short against Erie in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, falling 9-6. Can Centaurus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
