The Raceland Rams will challenge the Boyd County Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Raceland nor Boyd County posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
While Raceland's win against Dawson-Bryant wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Thursday. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Davanna Grubb's shutout, as she gave up just six hits.
On the hitting side, Raceland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryna Wellman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Wheelersburg hit Boyd County with a seven-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions came up short against the Pirates, falling 16-1.
Raceland's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Boyd County, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-15.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Raceland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Boyd County struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Raceland was able to grind out a solid win over Boyd County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
