Basketball Recap: Lutheran South Academy Takes a Loss

If Lutheran South Academy was feeling good fresh off their 60-33 takedown of Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lutheran South Academy Pioneers lost to the St. Agnes Academy Tigers at home by a 54-35 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1137th, while the Tigers are ranked 411th).

Despite the loss, Lutheran South Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Annaliese De La Pena posted 24 points and four steals. De La Pena is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Anna Schepmann, who had two points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lutheran South Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Lutheran South Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for St. Agnes Academy, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-8.

Lutheran South Academy will welcome Fort Bend Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Bend Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lutheran South Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Agnes Academy, they will head out to take on Alief Hastings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
