The Del Valle Conquistadores will face off against the Burges Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Del Valle is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.
On Friday, Del Valle needed a bit of extra time to put away El Dorado. They skirted past the Aztecs 2-1.
DIEGO VILLALOBOS made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
VILLALOBOS wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JACOB RIOS, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Del Valle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Burges came up short against Chapin on Friday, falling 16-5.
Victor Aguirre was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Del Valle's win bumped their record up to 23-5. As for Burges, they dropped their record down to 11-14-2 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Del Valle's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Conquistadores have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Burges, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Del Valle continue to outrun the ball?
Del Valle got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 against Burges by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Conquistadores since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
