Basketball Recap: Draper APA Picks Up 15th Straight Win at Home

It was a Battle of the Birds when Draper APA challenged Waterford on Thursday. The Draper APA Eagles breezed by the Waterford Ravens to the tune of 73-32. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Aaliyah Baldwin, who went 12 of 21 on her way to 29 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds. Her evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Kartchner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Baldwin wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Draper APA was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in three consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Waterford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Suzanne Reardon posted eight points and 12 rebounds. Those eight points gave Reardon a new career-high.

Draper APA pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 46.2 points. As for Waterford, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Draper APA will face off against American Leadership Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. American Leadership Academy's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Draper APA's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Waterford, they will square off against St. Joseph at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Waterford surely won't give up without a fight.
