The Cannon Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They claimed a resounding 81-26 victory over Charlotte Christian at home. Cannon has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Leading Cannon to victory were Maya Mccorkle and Kierra Morrow. Mccorkle dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Morrow dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Morrow has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Brooke Busby was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Charlotte Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Piper Fair, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Fair, who scored six points.
Cannon pushed their record up to 18-7 with that win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36.9 points. As for Charlotte Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cannon will challenge the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence Day will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth). As for Charlotte Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
