Churubusco hasn't had much luck against Woodlan recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Churubusco sitting on three straight victories and Woodlan on five.
Churubusco gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Central Noble.
Churubusco's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Knott, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Another was Dawson Gump, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Churubusco kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Woodlan ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Fremont by a score of 8-5. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Eagles on their field since April 23, 2021.
Jordan Halsey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Woodlan is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-11 otherwise. Halsey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clayton Rosier, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Woodlan is undefeated when Rosier posts two or more runs, but 10-13 otherwise. Caleb Linker was another key player, getting four hits from his five at bats.
Churubusco's win bumped their record up to 8-17. As for Woodlan, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Churubusco has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
