The Coal City Coalers will face off against the Central Rockets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Coal City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Coal City was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Seneca on Wednesday. The Coalers blew past the Fighting Irish 15-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Coalers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
A.J. Wills made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. Wills was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Berger, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Gabe McHugh was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Central came out on top against Jacobs on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Rockets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Golden Eagles 7-5. The victory continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Shane Lamberti looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Liam Schultz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Koertgen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Coal City's win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Coal City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
