Mission Valley recap September 10, 2013
Arroyo moved up to 338 from 410 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission Valley. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Temple City 44-6.
Mountain View was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in the league. The Vikings vanquished Bassett 28-14 earlier in the week.
Nathan Coto threw for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 19-34 with 0 interceptions.
Fernando Espinoza was the best wideout in the league this week as El Monte lost to Ontario Christian. Espinoza tallied 3 receptions for 80 yards. Roy Barrajas helped El Monte's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 44 yards.
Marcos Lopez was the most successful running back in Mission Valley this week. He ran for 186 yards on 16 carries as South El Monte lost to the Knights. Teammate Lino Ramirez added to the ground attack by rushing for 32 yards.
Coto put up the best numbers through the air as Arroyo defeated the Rams. Coto's favorite target this week was Nico Lozano, who caught 2 passes for 62 yards.
Jim Singiser's team's Coto and Lozano have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Coto has thrown for 518 yards this season, while Lozano has 6 catches for 251 yards. The Eagles' Lopez leads the league in rushing yards with 186.
El Monte fell to Ontario Christian 44-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adrain Cuevas was a bright spot for Joel Sanchez's team, as he threw for 169 yards in the loss.
