The Corning Bobcats fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Rivercrest Colts on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to the Colts. Corning has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rivercrest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Destiny Burks led the charge by scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Burks is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zakiyah Brownlee, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 19 rebounds.
Corning's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Rivercrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corning will face off against Manila at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Rivercrest, they will head out on the road to face off against Piggott at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Piggott is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
