Scappoose had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Pendleton/Nixyaawii Community Buckaroos 49-35.
A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Max Nowlin and his top target Jaiden Smith. Nowlin threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns while Smith picked up 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Smith was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 69 yards. Elijah Greenan-Biggs helped Nowlin out on the ground, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Scappoose was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 506 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
