The Central Jaguars will head out to square off against the Navarre Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Central will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Walton on Tuesday. The Jaguars never let the Braves get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Jaguars have beaten the Braves the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Braves has come to flipping the script.
Carson Baxley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Brock Schmidt and Shelton Enfinger did most of the damage at the plate: Schmidt got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Enfinger got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Garrett Gandy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walton only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Navarre fell victim to Gulf Breeze and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 13-0 to the Dolphins. The loss continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Dolphins: they've now lost four in a row.
Navarre saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jameson Rasmussen, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Central's record is now 9-4. As for Navarre, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Navarre's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Navarre, though, as they've only averaged .240. Will they be able to contain Central's hitters?
Central beat Navarre 3-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
