Basketball Game Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Needville Bluejays

Wharton and Needville are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Wharton Tigers will be playing at home against the Needville Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wharton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Wharton got the win against Columbia by a conclusive 77-51. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 24 points or more this season.

Jacoryan Dickerson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 22 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jameir Hearne-Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Needville played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against La Marque, falling 60-40. While losing is never fun, the Bluejays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 851st, while the Cougars are ranked 154th).

Needville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Wharton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season.

Wharton was able to grind out a solid victory over Needville in their previous matchup on January 3rd, winning 52-39. Does Wharton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Needville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
