The Cardinal Newman Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Palm Beach Central Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Newman is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Two weeks ago, Cardinal Newman sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-14 win over Benjamin.
Cardinal Newman found their leader in underclassman Dylan Bennett, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach Central stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Wellington, posting a 43-3 win on the road. Given Palm Beach Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Wellington is ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palm Beach Central can attribute much of their success to Leon Williams, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and Zequan Wright, who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Williams was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Waden Charles did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Cardinal Newman to 7-1 and Palm Beach Central to 8-1.
