The Northumberland Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Colonial Beach Drifters at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northumberland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Northumberland came up short against Westmoreland and fell 7-4. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Braylin Beauchamp put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Beauchamp was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kierra Coleman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Larkin Fletcher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Colonial Beach was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 25-14 to Essex.
Colonial Beach got a massive performance out of Olivia Belle Cooke, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Zayna Wolfe was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Northumberland's record is now 8-3. As for Colonial Beach, their record now sits at 2-11.
Colonial Beach's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Northumberland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Colonial Beach, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Northumberland keep running through batters, or will the Drifters buck the trend?
Everything went Northumberland's way against Colonial Beach in their previous matchup back in March, as Northumberland made off with a 19-0 win. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Drifters have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
