Platte Canyon and Clear Creek are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. Platte Canyon let Jacob Haase and Braylon Spodyak run wild. Haase got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Spodyak went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Haase is becoming a predictor of Platte Canyon's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 2-11 when he doesn't). Colton Shirley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Platte Canyon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clear Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Ellicott by a score of 12-7 on Saturday.
Zephyr Schuessler made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Weichel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caden McKown, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Clear Creek's record is now 6-7. As for Platte Canyon, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-12.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Platte Canyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Clear Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
