Baseball Recap: Atlantic Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Atlantic and Somerset Academy - Canyons meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Eagles took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.

Landon Thompson put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Atlantic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Joseph Santa Barbara was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rouss Doverno, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Atlantic's record now sits at 4-9. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atlantic will head out to challenge Glades Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.47 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they will head out on the road to take on Palm Beach Gardens at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
