Softball Game Preview: Renaissance Phoenix vs. Western International Cowboys

Renaissance is a perfect 3-0 against Western International since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Phoenix will look to defend their home field against the Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. Western International took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Renaissance, who comes in off a win.

Renaissance came out on top against Hazel Park on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Phoenix put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 13-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Zamaria Thomas was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skyler Carter, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Renaissance was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hazel Park only posted a batting average of .185.

Meanwhile, Western International was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Plymouth, falling 15-0.

The victory made it two in a row for Renaissance and bumps their season record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Western International, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything went Renaissance's way against Western International in their previous matchup last Thursday, as Renaissance made off with a 15-5 victory. Will the Phoenix repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
