The KIPP P Pride's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were the victim of a rough 60-34 loss at the hands of Southeast Halifax. KIPP P has not had much luck with Southeast Halifax recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why KIPP P lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaiyah Cherry. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 25 rebounds. Cherry is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Even though they lost, KIPP P were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast Halifax only pulled down 28 offensive rebounds.
Southeast Halifax got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Janiyla Pierce out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pierce has scored at least 25% of Southeast Halifax's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kemorriya Evans, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
KIPP P's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-3. As for Southeast Halifax, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-4.
KIPP P will take on Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Northampton County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Friday.
