The Mountain View Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Branham Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain View will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Even though Mountain View has not done well against Burlingame recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mountain View breezed by Burlingame at home to the tune of 49-21. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Mountain View's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arturo Hernandez, who rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Conway, who threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.
Meanwhile, Branham entered their tilt with Greenfield with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Branham simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Greenfield 41-14 at home. Branham might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Branham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Lewis, who threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns while completing 74.1% of his passes. Preston Conrad was another key contributor, picking up 140 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mountain View's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Branham, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Mountain View has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Branham struggles in that department as they've been even better at 207.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Mountain View might still be hurting after the 66-45 defeat they got from Branham in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Mountain View, William Augenstein (who rushed for 274 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
