Myrtle Beach (S.C.) senior quarterback
Everett Golson backed out of his longtime commitment to the University of North Carolina on Thursday to choose Notre Dame, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun News.
The 6-foot, 170-pounder said he will graduate early and enroll at Notre Dame in January.
"The NCAA investigation (of the Tar Heels' football program) kind of helped me look at other schools," Golson said.
Golson missed eight games this year due to hand and foot injuries in the second game. However, he has returned to lead the 13-1 Seahawks into Saturday's Class AAA state championship game against South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.).
In six games he has completed 90 of 133 passes for 1,590 yards and 22 touchdowns with just one interception. During his career he has completed 749 of 1,189 passes for 11,454 yards and 148 touchdowns.
He also is an outstanding basketball player – he averaged 19.6 points and made All-State as a junior - and there is a possibility that he could play both sports for the Fighting Irish.
