The Fayette Academy Vikings will square off against the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
St. Benedict at Auburndale will be up against a hot Fayette Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Fayette Academy beat Millington Central on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-4. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.
Hayden Fly made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harris Armour, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Walker, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Fayette Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Benedict at Auburndale). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Memphis East a 26-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Like Fayette Academy, St. Benedict at Auburndale also got a great game from a two-way player: Adam O'Brien. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Brien was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Cooper Hartwein was a standout: he scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Kyle Silvestro was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Fayette Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Fayette Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Benedict at Auburndale in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. Will Fayette Academy repeat their success, or does St. Benedict at Auburndale has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
