4A Foothills recap Oct. 23, 2012
Pueblo West extended the longest winning streak in 4A Foothills this week by beating Pueblo Centennial, 30-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Mesa Ridge led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Palmer Ridge. Cody Groff threw for 198 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
Quinn Ambrose was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bears fell to the Grizzlies. Ambrose tallied two receptions for 61 yards. Thomas Busath helped Palmer Ridge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 37 yards.
Derek Jackson was the most productive running back in 4A Foothills this week. He ran for 305 yards on 21 carries as Pueblo West lost to Mesa Ridge. Austin Bass also contributed to the rushing game with 86 yards on the ground.
Widefield's Mario Sanabria and Anthony Saunders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sanabria has thrown for 1279 yards this season, while Saunders, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 351 yards. Monte Pinkerton's team's Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 1776.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Gladiators take on Cheyenne Mountain. Widefield is currently in fifth, while the Indians are in third.
