Basketball Recap: Cooper Skates Past Yantis with Ease

A well-balanced attack led Cooper over Yantis in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Cooper Bulldogs blew the Yantis Owls out of the water with a 66-9 final score. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 50-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Owls had no chance of recovering from.

Leading Cooper to victory were Marilynn Wilkerson and Halle Toon. Wilkerson dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Toon went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points along with seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Toon a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Shantel Walker, who posted eight points and three steals.

Cooper smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The win was the third in a row for Cooper, bringing their record for this year to 8-10. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points per game. As for Yantis, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cooper and Como-Pickton will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Yantis will take on Cumby in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
