The Howells-Dodge Jaguars will head out on the road to take on the Stanton Mustangs on Tuesday. Howells-Dodge is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Howells-Dodge was able to grind out a solid victory over Wisner-Pilger, taking the game 2-0.
Howells-Dodge didn't let Wisner-Pilger take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-22.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Stanton's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Wayne by a score of 3-2.
Stanton wouldn't go down easily and took Wayne into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 17-25, 15-13.
Despite the loss, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hazel Schellpeper had ten digs and two aces.
Howells-Dodge's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Stanton, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Howells-Dodge has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Stanton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Howells-Dodge might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Stanton in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
