The Bucksport Golden Bucks will head out to take on the Foxcroft Academy Ponies at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Bucksport barely beat Orono the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Golden Bucks never let the Riots get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Friday. The Golden Bucks haven't had any issues with the Riots recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Natalie Simpson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Simpson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jetta Shook was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Marina Keene was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Foxcroft Academy got the win against Piscataquis on Friday by a conclusive 20-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ponies.
Like Bucksport, Foxcroft Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Lilly Bisson. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Bisson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis B, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Aspen P, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Bucksport pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 9.1 runs thus far. As for Foxcroft Academy, their record now sits at 2-0.
Bucksport took their win against Foxcroft Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bucks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
