Eastmark extended their losing streak to 13 on Monday, dropping them down to 2-18. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walden Grove Wolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Firebirds of the 10-8 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Eastmark saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Bertolina, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Walden Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games.
On Walden Grove's side, Gauge Abalos made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Abalos was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Nicolas Alegria got the start for Walden Grove and what a start it was: he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Alegria has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Angel Armenta was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Vaughn Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastmark will square off against Combs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Walden Grove, they will host Sahuarita at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
