Even though the Plum Mustangs scored an imposing 62 points on Wednesday, the Armstrong River Hawks still came out on top. Armstrong slipped by Plum 63-62. Given Armstrong's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Plum is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacob Szep was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jack Valasek, who scored 15 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Armstrong and bumps their season record up to 10-6. As for Plum, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Armstrong will head out on the road to take on Woodland Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Plum, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Shaler Area at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th.
